Glen Haven is located near the southern end of Skaneateles Lake. It is a hamlet that is a valley area that offers beautiful views of the lake. It is also home to the Glen Haven School and other things that are important to our history. It was at first home to Native Americans and they are the ones who are given credit for naming the lake “Skaneateles” after a native maiden was advised to swim the length of the lake in order to lose weight. At the end of the 16-mile lake, she exclaimed “Skinny at last!” and the name came from her excitement. Glen Haven is also near the Freedom Trail and a lot of historical landmarks that you can tour.
